As part of the Dharmadhara Study and Practice Program, we warmly invite you to our new online lecture series, “History of Buddhism.” The lectures by Dr. Katrin Querl, Dr. Jan-Ulrich Sobisch, and Sonam Spitz, followed by open discussions, will provide a comprehensive overview of the historical development, differentiation, and spread of the main Buddhist traditions in India, including their central teachings and practices.
The lecture series starts on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. We will begin with the life of the historical Buddha and the conditions during his lifetime. The series continues with the fundamental teachings of early Buddhism and the development of the Buddhist community. Following that, we will explore the rise of Mahayana Buddhism, its key scriptures, and philosophical currents. The series concludes with a presentation on Tantric Buddhism and the Mahamudra tradition.
