Introduction to the Tibetan Script

Whether reciting prayers and practical texts in Tibetan, visualizing mantras or individual syllables in Tibetan characters, or listening to a lama’s teachings – we always come into contact with the Tibetan language. This may lead to the desire to delve deeper into this fascinating language. The first step is to learn the Tibetan script and its pronunciation. Making this possible is the goal of this seminar series led by Claude Jürgens (Yeshe Metog).
At the first appointment on April 6th, the 30 letters of the alphabet will be taught in Tibetan “print script” (dbu can) and their pronunciation. The learners then have three weeks to practice the individual letters thoroughly. The following two parts of the seminar series are about combining letters to form more complex syllables and words.
At the end of the seminar series you will generally be able to read Tibetan texts. This is also the prerequisite for participation in the subsequent course “Introduction to Classical Tibetan”.
