The 100 Million Mani Recitation Retreat was established in 2001 by H.E. Drubwang Rinpoche (who passed away in 2007) in Singapore. Since then, more than 10,000 people have participated in this auspicious retreat. Participants gather and recite the six-syllable mantra OM MANI PADME HUNG, the heart mantra of Avalokiteshvara. Through the power of the mantra and individual effort, one will discover the excellent qualities of Avalokiteshvara within oneself. By purifying body, speech, and mind, one begins to uncover inner peace, compassion, and wisdom.
It is taught that reciting OM MANI PADME HUNG even once is unimaginably meritorious. If practiced, it will help to close the gates of the six realms of existence. Sentient beings will gradually become free from suffering, attain rebirth in Buddha’s pure land, and eventually attain full enlightenment.
As this is a group practice, the merit of the individual is equivalent to the unimaginable merit of 100 million mani mantras accumulated by the whole group throughout the retreat.
