Course Structure and models
The Dharmadhara Study and Practice Program consists of two levels and a total of six modules:
- Level 1: Foundational Level (Approx. 2 Years): This level imparts the basics of Tibetan Buddhist practice and consists of three modules:
– Module 1: “Profound Preliminaries” — a wide range of lectures and seminars on the history and basic teachings of Buddhism. We conduct some of these seminars in collaboration with the German Buddhist Union.
– Module 2: Mindfulness and Yoga – The basics of mindfulness practice and Tibetan yoga.
– Module 3: Meditation and Retreats – Participation in group and individual retreats to develop a personal practice. - Level 2: Advanced Level (Approx. 3 Years): This level offers an introduction to the teachings of the Kagyü practice lineage through three modules:
– Module 1: The Essence of the Mahayana Teachings – A text that explains the practice of the stages of the path to buddhahood in a gradual manner.
– Module 2: The Single Intention (Gongchik) – A unique text that summarizes the essence of the Buddha’s teachings relevant to practice.
– Module 3: Meditation and Retreats – Intensification of personal practice through group and individual retreats.
Moreover, the Dharmadhara Study and Practice Program offers two models of study and practice to suit the individual interests and abilities of the participants:
Model I: Flexible
This model is ideal for beginners and offers maximum flexibility. It can be completed at your own pace and offers the opportunity to learn a particularly wide range of Tibetan Buddhist practices. The practice retreats in this model can completed flexibly at the various participating centers.
Model II: Traditional
This model is aimed primarily at more advanced practitioners who wish to systematically follow the traditional five-fold path of Mahamudra (Tib. Ngaden). This five-year program is offered regularly at the Drikung Garchen Institute in Munich under the guidance of Drubpön Tsering Rinpoche.
