The Translation of the Gongchik Rinjangma: A Glimpse Behind the Scene

The Single Intention (Gongchik) by Drikung Kyobpa Jikten Sumgon (1143–1217) is one of the main works of the Tibetan Kagyu tradition and outlines the one decisive principle underlying all Buddha’s teachings in 150 so-called vajra statements. It is said that whoever understands this one principle has mastered all the teachings of the Buddha.

Since the summer of 2022, Katrin has been working on the English translation of the so-called Rinjangma commentary on the Single Intention. The author of this text, Rinchen Jangchub, was a direct disciple of Jikten Sumgon and was particularly known for his affinity for practice. Together with the Dosherma commentary by Chenga Dorje Sherab, the Rinjangma served as a prototype for all later commentaries on the Single Intention.

In this evening session, Katrin will introduce us to the literary corpus of the Single Intention and provide an exciting behind-the-scenes look at the translation of classical Tibetan texts using practical examples. This event is ideal for anyone intending to participate in the module Shedra 2: Single Intention (Gongchik) starting in early 2026.
