The Medicine Buddha (tib. Sangye Menla) is the supreme healer who unites the healing power of all Buddhas. He heals all illnesses, because all suffering arises in the mind. And so he frees living beings from the three mental poisons that cause physical and mental illnesses. Before his awakening, the Medicine Buddha took twelve vows in which he vowed, among other things, to later heal all those suffering from physical and mental ailments.
