The Seven-Point Mind Training (Tib. Lojong) was developed to bring forth the heart of the Dharma, the mind of awakening (Skt. bodhicitta) for the benefit of all beings.
The development of bodhicitta is an important foundation of vajrayana methods and for the realization of Buddha-nature:
All happiness in samsara, all qualities possessed by the shravakas, pratyekabuddhas and bodhisattvas have their origin in bodhicitta. If one does not possess it, it is impossible to attain buddhahood. If one possesses bodhicitta, one cannot prevent becoming a Buddha. Moreover, since all phenomena are the manifestation of a thought – just as a thought of anger takes on a hell-form – a buddha is the manifestation of bodhicitta.
