H.E. Söpa Rinpoche comes to Drikung Sherab Migched Ling, Aachen to give a lecture and a weekend seminar about the 21 Taras.
Tara (skr., tib. Dölma) is a female form of the Buddha who protects against dangers and fears and fulfils the wishes of sentient beings. Her wisdom mind corresponds to the Buddha, her wisdom speech to the Dharma and her wisdom body to the Sangha. Because of all her actions to liberate sentient beings, she was given the name Tara. Tara means ‘liberator’, i.e. she liberates sentient beings from the cycle of suffering (samsara). Because her activities are so limitless, Tara is also known as the embodiment of the activities of all Buddhas.
The 21 Tara Prayer is one of the most frequently recited prayers among Vajrayana practitioners and contains various emanations of Tara with a variety of qualities that are invoked during the recitation.
